Like many of my paintings, this one has several layers. There is the simple idea of a garden gate. There is the idea of being led “down the garden path”, and there is the idea (and this was in my mind when I painted it.) of it being the gate to the garden of Gethsemane, where Jesus prayed before the Roman soldiers came to take him away.
